sQuid to provide cashless catering to Nottinghamshire schools
4 Aug 2010
A county-wide cashless catering scheme is set to be launched across Nottinghamshire schools.
sQuid, the electronic payments network, has teamed up with school till system suppliers Cunninghams to provide eMoney solutions to children across the region.
Around 28,000 secondary school students and potentially 117,000 primary school pupils will be able to pay for meals quickly and easily without the need for cash.
The initiative could help support healthy eating in schools as parents will be able to monitor their child's purchases online, while users can also add credit to their internet account.
Lisa Griffiths, operations manager at Nottinghamshire County Council, claimed the council chose sQuid as it was a proven technology which offers significant cost savings.
She said: "We really like the fact that the payment system is specific to each transaction, meaning much reduced administration time and cost as we don't need to manage the parent pupil account. We believe parents will appreciate that too."
The system will be deployed throughout the county's schools in time for the new school year in September.
