TfL set to expand e-money options
6 Oct 2010

Transport for London (TfL) has announced that it will expand the range of e-money solutions passengers can use on its services.

The transport authority will introduce contactless payment technology on its bus network in 2012, enabling users to pay for travel with a contactless-enabled debit or credit card.

Running alongside the current Oyster card scheme, TfL claims the move could help tourists and those without Oyster to access the transport system.

Kulveer Ranger, the Mayor's transport adviser, expressed his belief that the move could benefit both commuters and TfL.

He said: "These technologies have the potential to take us into a world where travelling around London can be easier and even more convenient for passengers.

"This technology is now maturing and could enable people to pay for their travel using credit or debit cards resulting in a simpler process for the customer, and reducing commission and processing costs for TfL."

Passengers who pay by credit or debit card will be charged the same fare as Oyster cardholders.
