Applied Card Technologies awarded new transport contract
11 Apr 2011
A deal to introduce contactless smart cards for an initiative in Scotland has been offered to Applied Card Technologies.
The contract is to provide an asset management system for the country's Concessionary Travel Scheme, UKauthorITy.com reports.
It requires current back office technology to be replaced with a more efficient system that will be utilised by various different forms of transport.
The contract was originally awarded to East Kilbride-based company Ecebs, however this fell through and Applied Card Technologies was selected as an alternative.
A Transport Scotland spokesperson said: "The terms of their offer were withdrawn during the statutory standstill period... and we have therefore moved to offer the contract to the remaining best performing bidder."
The Concessionary Travel Scheme has already provided greater access to services to more than 1.1 million users.
This news comes after Canadian transport provider TransLink revealed it has named its new contactless smart card Compass after running a competition to decide a moniker.
