Australian transit card scheme expanded
9 Aug 2010

An Australian transit card scheme is set to be expanded, it has been revealed.

The MyZone card will be introduced to bus routes running from the centre of Sydney towards Bondi Junction and Maroubra Junction, reports southern-courier.whereilive.com.

From August 16th, passengers will no longer have to pay for their travel with cash, while officials confirmed that commuters will require a MyZone card to travel between 7am and 7pm on weekdays.

John Robertson, minister for transport, claimed that more people will now profit from the programme, which was initially only available in central Sydney.

He told the news provider: "Now commuters on Oxford Street and Anzac Parade will also experience these benefits.

"With all passengers soon buying their tickets before they board their bus, there should be an improvement in the on-time running of these Eastern Suburbs services."

Over 80 per cent of bus passengers use the transit card to travel on the main bus routes.
