Brisbane transit card system is a still 'a work in progress'
8 Mar 2011

Despite already proving a hit with commuters, the transit card system in place in Brisbane is still a work in progress, the new head of transport for the state of Queensland has said.

Just days after being sworn into her new job, Annastacia Palaszczuk has pledged to listen to the views of those who use the new technology on a daily basis and implement changes if necessary.

Speaking to the Brisbane Times, the minister explained that one future option could be offering travellers the chance to have a seasonal ticket on their smart transit cards, though she warned that any changes would only be made if they can be funded without jeopardising plans to improve the transport infrastructure of Queensland as a whole.

Celebrating the success of the Go Card system so far, Ms Palaszczuk said that herself and her colleagues should be "proud but not self-satisfied".

"The journey has not stopped nor should we stop listening to the opinion of commuters," she concluded.

At the same time, the passenger lobby group Rail Back on Track has praised the Brisbane transit card system, noting that it helps ensure the "quick loading of passengers on buses and ferries".
