Bristol transit card scheme expanded
2 Aug 2010
A Bristol transit card scheme has been expanded following a successful trial.
The smart card system will be introduced on 30 Wessex Connect buses in August after previously running on a limited number of the firm's vehicles and someuniversity services.
Cardholders will be able to pay for travel by simply swiping their pre-paid cards and they will also be eligible for a 16 per cent discount on all fares.
Passengers can add credit to their account on buses and selected stores in the future.
Ian Pollard, from Wessex Connect, said: "We are proud to be at the forefront of developing better access to bus services in the south-west by embracing new technology to offer improved ticket and pass options for people to get better value."
Bristol City Council claimed the programme could also be used by regional operator First Bus in March 2011.
Meanwhile, local residents have been invited to submit their ideas for the name of the new smart card.
