Bus transit card scheme set to be launched in Malaysia
24 Sep 2010
Bus passengers in Malaysia will soon be able to pay for travel with a transit card, according to reports.
Malaysian news agency Bernama has revealed that the Transport Ministry is set to issue the cards for use across the country's Bus Expressway Transit (BET) system.
Currently the BET, which was launched in January, only accepts cash which has increased journey times as passengers struggle to find the correct change.
Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha, transport minister, expressed his belief that the new technology would be more convenient than the current system.
He told the news provider: "I hope the pass card will solve the BET journey time and it will be affordable to customers."
BET services run throughout the country and have reduced overall journey times by 40 minutes on selected bus routes.
Kota Damansara and Bandar Sungai Long residents travelling to the capital city Kuala Lumpur via BET could do so in just 50 minutes compared to 90 minutes on traditional buses.
