Cable thieves responsible for London Underground delays
21 Sep 2011

Commuters faced delays of up to four hours after cable thieves targeted lines on the London Underground transit system last night (September 19th).

According to the London Evening Standard, one passenger was unable to get home until 03:30 when the travel service funded a taxi to transport the individual.

The long delays were caused by the attempted theft of cabling on the Metropolitan line, as well as a separate disruption caused by a stalled train on the Jubilee line.

Services were disrupted for 35 minutes from 23:45 when the British Transport Police (BTP) were called in to investigate the suspected cases of robbery.

A Transport for London spokeswoman said: "BTP were called late last night after reports of trespassers on the Metropolitan line track near Northwick Park who were suspected of trying to steal copper cabling."

Meanwhile, detectives are currently hunting a graffiti artist who has caused up to £1 million damage on the transit system and have issued a public appeal for help.
