Calls for contactless smart cards across Bristol
3 Sep 2009
A new contactless smart card was launched in Bristol last Wednesday - and now the man behind the initiative wants it rolled out across the whole city.
Steve Ward, the University of the West of England's travel planner, explained to Original Bristol 106.5 radio station that the cards have a number of benefits.
He said: "We have given students a smart card and are issuing them to the public. All you need to do is get on the bus, put the smart card on the reader and ask for a ticket - you don't need any cash."
Now, the aim is for as many people as possible to try out the technology, Mr Ward continued.
The smart cards work on ULink buses in the city and ensure that there is no need to carry around loose change.
In Bolton, Greater Manchester, eMoney network sQuidcard will soon be rolling out similar contactless smart cards for use on the town's buses.
