Cambridgeshire residents set to benefit from transit card
25 Aug 2010

Residents in Cambridgeshire will now be able to renew their monthly bus tickets with ease following the launch of a new transit card.

UK bus operator Stagecoach has launched the Megarider Xtra ticket which offers users unlimited bus travel in the region, reports cambridge-news.co.uk.

Previously, monthly tickets had to be renewed manually but passengers who use the Stagecoach Smart travel card can now pay for their tickers via their bank account which is linked to the card.

The card was recently released and uses the ITSO smart card platform - the preferred technology of the UK government.

Smart card readers have been installed on 85 per cent of Stagecoach's 7,000 strong fleet in the UK, including all 290 buses in Cambridgeshire.

The firm is aiming to become the first major UK operator to offer the service on all of its service when it plans to reach 100 per cent penetration by November 2010.
