Chesire transit card scheme expands
27 Sep 2010
More bus depots in Chesire have signed up to the county's transit card scheme, it has been revealed.
Three more regional depots have now joined the Cheshire Travelcard programme, which allows bus passengers to pay for travel without the need for cash.
Over 60 per cent of bus services in the county now accept the pre-paid transit card, with a total of eight depots now participating in the initiative.
In order to encourage uptake, cardholders are eligible for a ten per cent discount on the cost travel on participating operators.
Councillor Lynn Riley, executive member for community and environment, claimed residents of all ages can profit from the scheme.
She said: "The travelcard is also great for children who travel to school or to leisure facilities on a regular basis as parents can simply top the card up and they can take trips with ease."
