Commemorative Oyster cards go on sale this week
21 Apr 2011
Commemorative Oyster contactless smart cards will be released this week to celebrate the royal wedding.
The special travel passes are set to go on sale on Thursday April 21st and 750,000 will be issued.
Each will feature a photograph of Prince William and Kate Middleton, as well as the words: "To commemorate the marriage of Prince William of Wales and Miss Catherine Middleton 29 April 2011."
Commuters will need to pay at least £10 for the smart cards - £5 of which is the minimum top-up while the rest is the usual Oyster deposit fee.
The pieces of plastic can be used to make journeys on the city's buses and tube system and work out cheaper than purchasing a normal ticket.
William and Kate are set to walk down the aisle at 11:00 BST at Westminster Abbey, while a reception will be held at Buckingham Palace following the service.
Large screens will be erected in Hyde Park and Trafalgar Square to show the event.
