Contactless MasterCard technology coming to US transit systems
13 Jun 2011
US citizens who use public transit to complete their commute could soon benefit from contactless payment technology courtesy of new plastic from MasterCard.
The Commuter Check Prepaid MasterCard was announced by Edenred, Commuter Check and WiredCommute so that paying for journeys can be done swiftly and easily.
Each card will come equipped with MasterCard's PayPass technology, with users being able to benefit from a number of options.
These include the choice of pay-as-you-go, pre-fund and time-based fare solutions, while discounts can be activated for students, disabled people and senior citizens where required.
Meanwhile, those who use transit schemes to travel on the London Underground, such as via Oyster cards, have been warned of strikes planned on the network.
A series of four walk-outs have been announced by the tube's employees' union, RMT, which will take place in sequences between the dates of June 19th and July 1st.
