Contactless smart cards given to Delhi kids
4 Sep 2009
Contactless smart cards are being used as a safety measure among children in Delhi, India.
According to the Times of India, youngsters in the city are being given the eMoney facility to use on buses to and from school.
By swiping the cards when they get on and off the buses, a computerised note is made of the amount of time the children spend on the vehicles.
The whereabouts of the bus itself can also be tracked using contactless smart card technology.
A similar scheme will soon be operating in the UK town of Bolton, Greater Manchester, where holders of the Council-issued BSmart card aged 11-16 will be able to use their sQuid enabled contactless cards to pay for bus travel in the town.
