DfT contactless consultation "a major step"
27 Aug 2009

The Department for Transport (DfT) consultation on smart and integrated contactless payments is "a major step" in the creation of a countrywide electronic ticketing solution, it has been asserted.

In an article for online industry resource Silicon, Jo Best explained that commuters around the country could soon be using new technology to speed up their journeys.

She noted that while smart ticketing schemes have appeared in a range of different areas around the country, this is the first time that a more widespread solution could be found.

Ms Best added: "The department is hoping to introduce integrated ticketing over the next five to ten years - allowing consumers to purchase a single ticket to travel on any mode of transport across any number of transport operators."

The DfT consultation began on August 20th and will run until October 28th. All responses must be submitted by this date in order to be taken into consideration.
