East Midlands Trains expands transit card scheme to new customers
12 Jan 2012
East Midlands Trains has expanded its transit card scheme to allow new customers to benefit from the smart ticketing system.
The train company, part of Stagecoach Group, has announced that customers who purchase or renew a monthly or annual season ticket will now be able to receive their pass on a StagecoachSmart travel card. Previously, only existing season ticket holders could use the smart cards.
Passengers simply hold their card, which can be reloaded with new season tickets upon their expiry, against the reader on the ticket gates to enter or exit the station.
David Horne, East Midlands Trains managing director, claimed that the launch of the news cards will make travelling on the company's trains "even easier".
He said: "We want to make travel even smarter and more convenient for our customers and we will continue to expand the scheme to include more tickets for even more passengers in the future.
"By embracing new technology and continuing to offer good value, high-quality services, we look forward to attracting even more people on to our trains."
