Five run market campaign using Oyster card holders
2 Oct 2009
In a move that perhaps highlights the popularity of contactless smart card payment in London, the controller of television channel Five - Richard Woolfe - spent time handing out free Oyster card holders earlier this week.
According to the Guardian, the move was part of a marketing campaign by the channel to promote US import drama Flashforward.
The card holders were designed with the show's branding on them and around 8,000 were dished out in the capital.
Five must have realised that with thousands of commuters travelling through London each day with the help of Oyster cards, this scheme was a way of reaching a large number of potential viewers quickly.
Oyster cards allow people to store up to £90, which can be used to pay for travel on tubes, buses and the Docklands Light Railway in London.
Those using the technology place their cards up to conveniently-located readers in order to gain access to the aforementioned transport in the capital.
