Google maps integrates London Underground
28 Jul 2011

Individuals who regularly take journeys on the London Underground transit system could find it easier to find their station following a recent announcement.

In an announcement on its official blog, internet giant Google unveiled plans to integrate the transport network onto its Google Maps application.

The move, which was launched today (July 28th), is set to assist the one billion users of the service across 18,000 bus stops and more than 250 underground stations.

In addition, smartphone users will be able to access the information while on the go using the organisation's Google Maps for mobile feature.

Transit directions manager Thijs van said: "We're strong supporters of open data and bringing information out into the open, and believe that making information publicly accessible can be an enormous engine of economic growth and innovation."

Earlier this week, Transport for London announced the launch of a competition for London Underground staff to grow their own vegetables across the transit system.
