Infobus transit system in Nottingham 'will give schoolchildren taste of bus travel'
24 Jun 2011
A new transit system in Nottingham, called Infobus, will give schoolchildren the opportunity to experience a taste of bus travel.
Year six children in the area will benefit from the specially-designed bus, which hopes to educate the youngsters about what it is like to travel into their new secondary school on a new mode of transport.
As well as giving advice about safe travel, the Infobus will promote the Citycard 360 loyalty scheme, which is the public transport card for Nottingham, offering discounts at shops, cafes and leisure centres, among other places.
The card also provides cashless catering for secondary schools in the city, said councillor Jane Urquhart, Nottingham City Council's portfolio holder for planning and transport.
Explaining the transit initiative, she added: "The bus and driver provide a fun but informative way for the pupils to find out how to catch the bus safely, what to do and what not to do when travelling by bus."
Recently, it was announced that black cabs in London would soon feature contactless payment solutions on board.
Ingenico will be responsible for distributing the technology, which is being introduced as part of a deal led by Visa Europe.
