London Oyster card Extension Permits scrapped
14 Mar 2011

People with Oyster contactless smart cards will no longer require an Oyster Extension Permit, it has been revealed.

This was one of a series of improvements established by mayor of London Boris Johnson and the city's train companies at a summit held last Friday (March 11th).

It is hoped that by working together, Mr Johnson, Greater London rail operators and Transport for London can make getting around the capital easier for millions of people.

Previously, those who wished to travel outside of their Oyster card zones had to obtain an Extension Permit from ticket offices or machines.

However, it has now been decided that these are no longer required as Mr Johnson considers them to be confusing.

Discussing Oyster contactless smart cards, he said: "Getting Oyster on to National Rail in the capital has been a massive success."

Last week, the Epping Forest Guardian reported that calls have been made for more check-in machines to be installed at tube stations around the city, as some people find it difficult to swipe their cards.
