London TravelWatch calls for Oyster card changes
16 Mar 2011

One organisation has called for changes to be made to the Oyster contactless smart cards used on the UK capital's transport system.

London TravelWatch claimed that more should be done to ensure passengers are not charged a maximum fare if they have difficulties touching in or out with their plastic.

Chair of the body Sharon Grant said: "We know that overcharging on Oysters - especially at rail stations - is a huge problem, involving a significant sum of money and it must be investigated without delay."

Furthermore, the organisation also believes the number of stations using the Oyster system should be extended.

It wants locations such as Dartford, Epsom Esher, Waltham Cross, Cheshunt, Slough and Windsor to be included.

Last month, business development director for JD Data Cards John Cooke claimed that "wave and pay" contactless smart cards will become part of everyday life over the next three to four years.
