London Underground block closures begin
27 Jul 2011

Individuals using the London Underground to travel to work have been told to expect delays following the start of a series of closures.

According to BBC News, sections of the transit system's Circle and District lines will be out of action for four weeks while upgrade work is carried out.

As part of the plans, both routes will be closed between High Street Kensington and Edgware Road until August 23rd in a bid to improve the reliability of the service.

New track and drainage renewal is also set to be carried out to support the introduction of recently designed longer trains created to ease journeys for passengers.

London Underground's David Waboso said: "We do hope any disruption caused by this block closure will be significantly outweighed by the huge overall benefits of this essential improvement work."

Meanwhile, 16 tube stations - including Oxford Circus and Wood Green - have been regarded as listed buildings as a mark of respect for their historic design and individual features.
