London Underground chiefs discuss new technology
31 Oct 2011
London Underground (LU) bosses are looking for professional advice on how to make the transit system more passenger-friendly.
The Tube network - which is famed for embracing technology such as the Oyster Card - is undergoing a major regeneration, with work ongoing until 2018.
Now LU chiefs are seeking guidance from technology experts, as they look to implement a communications network on the public transport system, the Guardian reports.
Leaders are concerned that modern technology could be outdated by the time the project is complete and so are looking for developments that will stand the test of time.
The organisation is particularly looking to discuss how network processors, switching and routing and wireless technology can enhance the Underground to benefit the army of smartphone owners who ride the rail network everyday.
Last week, it was reported that the Oyster Card system would be extended to a number of stations in Essex and Hertfordshire, as Dutch firm Abellio takes over the Greater Anglia rail franchise.
