London Underground: Commuters could see ticket price rise
17 Aug 2011

Commuters who use the London Underground transit system on a regular basis could see considerable increases to the price of their tickets.

According to reports, the cost of regulated fares - such as monthly passes - could soar by eight per cent next year as a result of the latest inflation figures.

The significant increases emerge as part of the government's plans to reduce the cost of running the rail network to the taxpayer.

It has also been suggested that some prices could exceed the eight per cent rise as a result of individual decisions by independent travel companies.

David Sidebottom, Director of Passenger Focus, told BBC News: "Some passengers, who may have seen no investment or improvements, can get hit year after year.

"We will forcefully advocate change to this system in the government's forthcoming fares review."

Property Community recently reported that properties close to centrally located tube stations were more expensive than those in outer locations.
