London Underground: TfL launches text information service
24 Aug 2011

Smartphone users who use the London Underground transit system could acquire information on the go following the launch of a new initiative.

According to the Guardian, Transport for London (TfL) has upgraded its journey planning telephone service with the launch of voice recognition technology.

In addition, the plans - which aim to make it quicker for the public to access updates - include a text message information service to keep commuters in the know.

Passengers requiring a journey planning service will still have the option of speaking to a travel advisor, as well as asking station employees or using the TfL website.

Ian Henderson, the government body's Director of Group Customer Services, said: "The enhanced voice recognition technology will mean callers can pin point locations and destinations more quickly and receive more detailed information to plan their journeys."

Earlier this week, London Underground invited contractors to tender for repair and maintenance services across the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly Lines as part of a new £100 million deal.
