London's black cabs to receive contactless payment technology
3 Jun 2011
Contactless payments have begun to be rolled out in the well-known black cabs of London, those in the capital may be pleased to hear.
The technology is being distributed in this form of transport by Ingenico, and has come about in conjunction with an initiative led by Visa Europe, which is encouraging more card usage in cabs in the capital.
Ingenico has revealed that it intends to roll out the contactless payment solution into every one of the 25,000 black cabs currently in operation in London.
People who use the taxis during their commute will be able to take advantage of the scheme via traditional Chip and PIN and magstripe technology formats too, in case they are yet to have contactless methods available to them.
Recently, Vodafone revealed that it was to roll out some taxis which use near field communication strategies as payment, offering those in London even more options when sorting out expenses for a trip across the city.
