London's overseas visitors can now order Oysters
1 Dec 2009

Transport for London (TfL) now allows overseas visitors to the English capital to order Oyster cards online before they head to England.

Residents of some 62 countries can now get hold of their smart cards for travel in Greater London well ahead of their trip to the UK.

Delivery time depends on where in the world the cards have been ordered from. For example, it will take between four and seven days for the card to reach the Netherlands or Portugal, but from seven to 12 days to reach the US.

Other countries that TfL will send Oyster cards to are Ukraine, Turkey, Argentina, Australia and many more.

Writing for the New York Times' Globespotters section, Pam Kent says: "Heading for London and want to avoid the queues for tickets on the city's bus and tube lines? Now you can be ready to roll - literally - with a new online service."
