24 Aug 2010
A multi-functional transit card has been launched in Taiwan which will allow users to travel freely across one of the country's most popular tourist attractions.
The Sun Moon Lake Smart Travel Card has been developed by the local administration to assist visitors travel around the huge expanse of water, reports etaiwannews.com.
Cardholders can use the recently constructed cable car line to take trips over the lake and it can also be used on local bus and boat services.
Tourists wishing to take their own form of transport will also receive discounted bicycle and motorcycle rental.
In addition to facilitating transport across the region, users can receive discounts for goods across hundreds of local stores, hotels, restaurants and theme parks.
The smart card also includes a day pass to the Formosa Aboriginal Culture Village, which showcases the native culture.
Furthermore, a loyalty scheme is incorporated into the card which rewards users with points which can later be redeemed at participating stores.
