New Cardiff transit card proves a hit with bus passengers
9 Nov 2010

A new transit card scheme in Cardiff has been a huge success as thousands of bus passengers have applied for the new technology within weeks of its launch.

Cardiff Bus has received around 25,000 applications for its new Iff card which offers customers the chance to pay for travel without the need for cash.

The firm will give away the first 30,000 cards, which will also include £3 credit, for free.

David Brown, Cardiff Bus managing director, claimed that the firm is expected to reach its target number of applications for its first year within the next few weeks.

He said: "While we always knew the Iff card would be popular with existing customers, we believe that anecdotally the card is creating an interest from many non-users who are taking the opportunity of the free £3 credit to give us a try."

Cardiff Bus spent around £300,000 on the transit card project, which can be topped up with a maximum of £50 credit.
