New plan to promote transit card use in Mumbai
31 Dec 2010

The Regional train operator in Mumbai has developed a new way to promote the use of transit card on the city's trains, it has been revealed.

Direct News and Analysis has reported that Central Railways is planning to man all the smart card ticket machines at 58 stations to teach train passengers how to use the technology.

Currently, ticket office staff at Mumbai-based train stations must deal with lengthy queues as many residents are unsure how to use the machines but it is hoped the new measure will see consumers embrace the smartcard.

A senior official told the news provider: "We have now called group-3 employees from all the departments of railways to come forward and man the machines so that commuters get some help at the booking counters.

"If the crowding is more, they will guide and help the passengers to procure tickets from the machines."
