New transit card launched in Singapore
6 Aug 2010
A new transit card has been launched in Singapore which will enable commuters to make cashless payments across the country's transport network.
Nets, the electronic payments firm, and premier solutions provider Nera Telecommunications have released the contactless NETS FlashPay card.
The card can be used on all Plus1 buses and regional rail services, as well as selected retailers across Singapore.
Poh Mui Hoon, chief executive officer of NETS, claimed the new contactless card is ideal for transit as it will reduce queuing times.
She said: "Commuters everywhere, whether on the MRT [Mass Rapid Transit], LRT [Light Rail Transit] public and private buses, are now afforded the ease of being able to use just one card for all their transportation needs."
Residents will be able to buy small value goods with the card at over 8,000 stores by simply swiping their card over the provided reader.
Plus1 runs four bus routes at Upper Serangoon, Hougang, Sengkang and Serangoon Gardens.
