New transit card programme set to be launched on Cardiff Bus
30 Sep 2010

A new transit card programme is set to be deployed on bus services throughout Cardiff, according to reports.

News website walesonline.co.uk has revealed that regional operator Cardiff Bus will launch the smart cards in early October.

Bus passengers will reportedly receive the cards for free, while users will be able to top up their card with pay-as-you-go credit and season tickets.

Furthermore, the new cards are based on technology which could be adapted in the future to enable cardholders to pay for other modes of transport and services across Wales.

Delme Bowen, the city council's executive member for transport, expressed his delight that the new cards could promote public transport in Cardiff.

He told the news provider: "I greatly welcome it and I hope that it will encourage people to use more public transport, especially when we are creating new bus lanes in the city centre."
