Overcharging could be thing of the past for Oyster card users
12 Jul 2011
Overcharging could be a thing of the past on the London Underground transit systems.
According to Tom Edwards, transport correspondent at the BBC, the next generation of Oyster cards could be designed in a way which stops people being overcharged for their journeys.
At the moment, people who do not complete a journey by tapping out on their Oyster, risk wasting money on every trip they make.
But in the future, there might be an "automatic journey complete" option for users, Mr Edwards said.
Transport for London said in a Freedom of Information request from the Liberal Democrats on the London Assembly that it recognises more can be done to improve the service of the Oyster card.
It added it is working "on a technological solution which we hope to introduce later this year to tackle the issue of incomplete journeys", reports the BBC.
Recently, at the 2011 Royal College of Art degree show, former graphic designer Benjamin Parton displayed an Oyster card which people can charge up and wear, reported the Evening Standard.
