Oyster card users 'deserve better communication'
16 Jun 2011

London Underground (LU) should be communicating more effectively with Oyster card users, according to an independent watchdog.

As well as improving communication, LU should reassess its approach to compensation payments and reduce the need for weekend and evening closures on the transit system, London Travelwatch said in a report submitted to the London Assembly's investigation into the state of the Tube.

Oyster card holders and other users of the transit system have been disappointed by the expense and disruption caused by the current upgrade programme.

They also said the method of paying compensation should be changed, with money refunded going direct to their debit, credit or Oyster card.

"Passengers would like to see London Underground improve, and clarify, communications with passengers both on trains and stations, especially at times of disruption," said Sharon Grant of London TravelWatch.

A spokesperson for Transport for London recently slammed the decision of two workers' unions to stage walkouts on the Underground in the middle and end of June.
