Oyster cards 'cheap way to travel around London'
14 Apr 2011
Oyster contactless smart cards are an easy and affordable way for people to get around London, one expert has advised.
Writing for NewsOK, Lonely Planet US travel editor and spokesman Robert Reid described the English capital as the "first international city any American traveller should visit".
He also described using London's public transport system as "half the fun" of visiting.
Mr Reid recommended getting an Oyster card to travel around as this allows people to get unlimited journeys on the tube or double-decker buses for about $14 (£8) a day.
This, the expert noted, is about the same price as a short taxi ride in the US, so it could be a worthwhile investment.
Getting around the capital could be even easier following the decision to scrap the Oyster Extension Permit that was previously required to reach outer areas of London.
Mayor Boris Johnson said it is no longer needed as it was too confusing.
