SAS to launch new mobile NFC solution
16 Jun 2011
Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) is launching a new SAS Smart Pass using near field communication (NFC) technology to help its customers move through airports more quickly.
The SAS Smart Pass was successfully trialled earlier this year in three Scandinavian cities and now it will be rolled out across all nations in the region this autumn.
Members of its EuroBonus Gold frequent flyer programme will be able to put the pass on their mobile phone, which, using NFC technology, works like a wireless transmitter at self-service machines, security, airport lounges, tax-free shopping areas and even at the boarding gate.
"Our customers really appreciate our mobile travel solutions, and we can see that your mobile and NFC is the future," said Lena Rokaas, vice president of product and customer service at SAS.
Recently, a smart card system was introduced in San Francisco aimed at aiding cyclists who wish to park their bikes in a safe and secure site for a nominal hourly fee.
