Scrapping Oyster Extension Permits 'will make travel easier'
17 Mar 2011
The London Assembly Member for Merton and Wandsworth has welcomed the decision to scrap the Extension Permits that accompany Oyster contactless smart cards.
Richard Tracey AM said the move will "make daily travel easier for millions of Londoners", Rail.co reports.
The choice was made at a recent travel summit held by the city's mayor Boris Johnson, Greater London rail operators and Transport for London.
It will mean that anyone journeying to the outskirts of the capital will no longer need a special Oyster card permit if they move beyond Travelcard zones.
"These permits were confusing, so it is good that they not going to be necessary and that travelling in London will be even easier," Mr Tracey continued.
He added that it will eliminate the need to visit a ticket office or machine, adding that the recently reached agreement is a success for the London transport system.
The summit was held last Friday (March 11th).
