Smart card systems introduced for cyclists in San Francisco
13 Jun 2011

Individuals who like to journey around San Francisco on their bikes can now benefit from contactless payment strategies, in a move which could show the benefits of such technology.

A smart card system has been introduced by Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) within Ashby Bike Station, those interested in this type of travel method may want to note.

The facility will house parking for up to 128 bikes, all of which will be safe and secure, while smart cards can be used to pay the nominal fee per hour.

Such a scheme will likely mean that the 500 cyclists who descend on Ashby Station each day through the week will be able to do so with ease from now on.

Meanwhile in transit news affecting the UK, British drivers have been told that the M6 toll road is set to trial contactless payment methods from early next year.

Beginning with a single lane of the system adopting the technology, the aim is to have all booths using the scheme in the near future.
