St Louis set to develop transit card system
15 Sep 2010
A new transit card system is currently being developed in St Louis, it has been revealed.
Regional transport authority Metro is planning to introduce a smart card ticketing system which will allows residents to pay for travel without the need for cash, reports stltoday.com.
The technology would be rolled out on buses across the state, as well as MetroLink tram services.
Ray Friem, Metro's chief operating officer for transit, confirmed the body are looking to learn from other smart card schemes.
He told the news provider: "We're studying other transit systems on how they rolled it out."
Metro claim that costs will be driven down by eliminating paper tickets, while the organisation will also be able to gather more data on passenger's travelling habits.
This could enable Metro to adjust their routes and the frequency of their timetable according to consumer demand.
