Sydney transit card project set to offer 'convenient' payment
8 Oct 2010
The new transit card scheme in Sydney will offer users the chance to top-up their account quickly and easily, it has been claimed.
The New South Wales Government's Public Transport Ticketing Corporation recently awarded the AD$1.2 billion (£743 million) smartcard ticketing contract to the Pearl Consortium.
International emoney payments provider epay is among the members of the Pearl Consortium and is set to play a key role in the deployment of the programme.
Grant Sheppard, managing director for epay in Australia and New Zealand, revealed residents would be able to add credit to their card in numerous locations.
He said: "epay welcomes the opportunity to play a key role in the introduction of the smartcard system in Sydney by making it easier for customers to buy smartcards and load funds from about 2,000 epay locations including convenience stores, supermarkets, newsagents and petrol stations in the greater Sydney area."
The new ticketing system is set to be implemented across Sydney's public transport network from the end of 2012.
