Testers wanted for contactless smart card initiative
3 Sep 2009
People in Maryland are being recruited to test a new contactless smart card on the state's Metro system.
Between October 1st and November 30th (a 60-day period), the Maryland Transport Administration (MTA) will be trialling the technology in the hope that it could lead to the development of a system similar to that which is used on the Washington Metro.
The Baltimore Sun reports that the authority would like around 250 more residents to try out the cards over that period. Some 250 people have already signed up to the trial.
Dubbed the MTA CharmCard, the new initiative has been formed as a method to make travel in Maryland more convenient.
Meanwhile in the UK, people of Bolton, Greater Manchester, will soon be able to use contactless smart cards to pay for bus travel in their local area courtesy of eMoney network sQuidcard.
