Toronto transit cards launch child and senior discounts
11 Jan 2011
Presto contactless smart card travel fares have bee launched for children and seniors.
Regional fares for children and seniors have been added to the Presto transit cards used on metro trains and buses in the Toronto area of Canada.
According to the Toronto Star, youngsters and those who are retired will now be able to use the contactless smart cards for their travel on the GO system.
The cards, which can be topped up at stations with electronic money, must be registered online and then presented with senior or child ID at a GO station for the discounted fare to be set.
For the sake of the pricing scheme, paying children are considered those aged six to 12 years old, while seniors include all those over the age of 65 - the discount sees them saving 50 percent off the single adult GO fare.
As an additional incentive to start using contactless smart card travel, customers at GO stations newly fitted with Presto can exchange their current GO adult monthly passes or 10-ride tickets for a Presto card and save the $6 dollar fee that is usually charged for the card to be issued.
The incentive is on offer at the Ajax GO station until January 16th, the Danforth GO station until January 19th and the Bramalea GO station until February 7th.
