Tube strike 'will have little impact on Londoners'
17 Jun 2011
Tube users, some of whom use contactless payment methods to purchase Oyster cards for travel on the transit system, are not likely to be affected greatly by the first strike action, it has been claimed.
National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers members are staging a walkout from 21:00 BST on Sunday June 19th until 03:00 BST on Monday June 20th.
However, London Underground told the BBC: "We expect this strike to have very little impact both on Sunday evening and on Monday morning and are working hard to ensure this is the case."
The biggest concern will be if the walkout creates knock-on effects which continue into the Monday morning rush hour.
Members of other unions, such as the Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen, and non-union workers are still expected to be driving trains.
Recently, independent watchdog London Travelwatch said it believed the London Underground should be communicating in a more effective manner with Oyster card holders who use the service.
