Tube strikes due to affect Wimbledon
20 Jun 2011
Tennis fans heading to Wimbledon next week are likely to be affected by strikes taking place on the London Underground (LU) transit system.
Luckily, the six-hour walkout on Tube lines which took place yesterday (June 19th) from 21:00 BST did not cause too much disruption.
However, longer strikes will be taking place in the coming weeks, which are bound to affect those heading to and from the famed summer tennis tournament.
According to LU there was a good service on all Tube lines this morning, with Oyster card users only hit by "minor service alterations" last night.
"This strike action has not achieved anything," said Mike Brown, managing director at LU, adding that he sees no need for the Rail, Maritime and Transport union to continue with their "pointless" walkouts.
The Wimbledon Championships, which is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year, kicks off today and will continue until July 3rd.
