Tube users 'will soon benefit from cooler trains'
1 Jul 2011

Oyster card holders and other users of the London Underground transit system have been assured that cooler trains are on the way.

By 2016, 40 per cent of the entire Tube network will be using air-conditioned trains, Transport for London has announced.

The London Overground is now being served by a full fleet of air-conditioned services, and the Metropolitan line, Circle and Hammersmith & City lines will all see cooler carriages by next year.

In 2013, the District line will receive a fleet of trains with air-con.

London's transport commissioner, Peter Hendy, said: "With the hot weather we've seen this week we know that it can get uncomfortable on the network, and I want to reassure our passengers that we are working hard to overcome the unique and considerable engineering challenge of cooling the Tube."

Recently it was announced that a new London 2012 Olympic poster project will be launched on the London Underground, with famous artists including Tracey Emin creating pieces to be displayed at Tube stations.
