Wolverhampton transit card scheme set to be launched
27 Aug 2010

A new card transit scheme is set to be rolled out across Wolverhampton's buses, it has been revealed.

West Midlands transport agency Centro has installed smart card readers on 216 of the region's buses, reports thewolf.co.uk.

Currently, the devices will only accept free national concessionary passes although standard passes will be compatible with the system within weeks, according to Centro.

Michael Wevill from Centro expressed his belief that passengers will profit from the switch to the new ticket less system.

He told the news provider: "We've had lots of positive comments about how easy and convenient the new system is from both passengers and bus companies in those areas which have already gone smart."

Once the project is available to all users, customers will be able to pay for their travel by simply touching their cards against the provided readers without the need for cash.
