Two-thirds 'missing out' on credit card rewards
8 Jul 2011
Britons seem to be missing out on the rewards and privileges of using credit cards, with research revealing that 63 per cent could be earning more than £100in benefits by paying for everyday items with plastic.
The American Express study indicated that cardholders enjoy £116 a year on average through loyalty points, with rewards including cashback, retail vouchers and complimentary flights.
With the advent of eMoney, it is now even easier and quicker for people to pay with credit cards and thus benefit from these various offers.
"It is time UK consumers ended their unrequited love affair with ‘passive plastic'. Why continue to make purchases on debit and credit cards that give nothing back for your spending?" vice-president of American Express Julie Hay remarked.
Retail giant lastminute.com, for example, has just launched a loyalty scheme in partnership with MasterCard and MBNA, where points can be earned on all purchases.
