Contactless smart cards 'a new mantra' for students
31 July 2009

Contactless smart cards have made "tap and go" a new mantra for students at Kentucky's Morehead StateUniversity, reports ContactlessNews.

The publication explains that the educational institution now uses contactless smart cards for a range of different transactions.

Cashless catering - in terms of both dining and snack vending services - is one area where eMoney is used by students.

Meanwhile, laundry services, copying, printing and security access are all also administered via the contactless smart cards.

ContactlessNews adds that the current system represents an upgrade on a previous hybrid contactless and magnetic stripe card that was in use.

Since the switch, revenue from vending sales has increased by a tenth, the article reports.

In the UK, sQuidcard is already in use in some educational institutions.

The eMoney card can be used for cashless catering, but can also extend to provide payment services for other areas such as field trips.
