New eMoney system for Ontario students
10 Aug 2009
Students at Ontario's St Lawrence College are facing a slightly different eMoney system when they return to the institution for the new term, reports The Whig Standard.
In previous years, they have been given the opportunity to use college transit systems by paying a lump sum up front and being issued with smart cards to use on subsequent journeys.
However, the eMoney system has been updated, providing extra information to the educational institution itself.
The extension of the Busit programme is due to last for at least another three years, building on a 14-year use of smart cards on the college's transit systems.
Unlike previous years, however, the new issue of cards allows the institution to track usage of its transport by students in greater detail.
In the UK, educational establishments such as Sheldon School and St Augustine's Catholic College are using sQuidcard's similar technology to allow cashless catering to take place on-site, allowing parents to top up their child's card online and view their daily transactions.
