Wiltshire motorists set to profit from e-money solutions
30 Dec 2010
Motorists in Wiltshire will soon be able to use e-money solutions to pay for their parking fare in council-run car parks, it has been reported.
IT specialist firm Chipside has developed the MiPermit service which allows drivers to pay the required fee online, via text message or through an iPhone application, reports the Gazette and Herald.
Richy Clements, technical director of Chipside, claimed the new technology would benefit both local residents and the council.
He told the news provider: "We want to reduce the need for people to carry around cash. And it will be financially advantageous for the council as they can reduce the amount of cash they have to collect and put in the bank."
Once drivers have initially registered for the service, they can simply send a text with their number plate and the duration of time they want to park to pay for their fare. Additional parking time can also be purchased via text.
